Bareminerals BarePRO Foundation Review

For the past couple of years, I’ve been a loyal cushion compact gal. I loved how low maintenance it was to reapply throughout the day and the natural dewy finish was perfect for me.

Lately though, I noticed my needs changed. I wanted more coverage to conceal my sun spots and blemishes. I was getting older and my dark circles became darker. I needed more support to pull off that vibrant, glowing-from-within skin. I also wasn’t a fan of the dewy finish anymore – I craved a matte.

I begrudgingly made a trip to my nearest Ulta Beauty store, bidding farewell to my cushion compacts.

Lo and behold, my new discovery – Bareminerals BarePRO Performance Wear Liquid Foundation. I got the shade in Golden Ivory 08, and I have been LOVING it.

The Bareminerals website claims this foundation will “redefin[e] what long wear means. The skin-loving, high-performance formula blurs pores and imperfections while improving your skin’s condition, all with a soft-focus natural matte finish. With up to 24-hour wear in a range of 30 true-to-you shades, it works and plays as hard as you do. Just one pump delivers lightweight, oil-free, photo-friendly full-coverage.”

I haven’t tested the 24-hour long wear claim because this girl doesn’t have time to allow foundation sit on her face for that long. I did try the foundation (without face primer) for eight hours though, and it definitely lived up to the long wear. My T-zone got a little oily, but with a little pressed powder, it was all good.

I also wanted to test out was the claim that the “formula blurs pores and imperfections…all with a soft-focus natural matte finish.” The watery consistency of the foundation made me hesitant. Was this really going to cover all the blemishes on my face?

After the first application, I did see some blemishes and sun spots peeking through. For daytime, one layer of foundation would suffice to cover my imperfections. For nighttime, however, I did apply another thin layer of foundation to my cheeks, my nose, and the area around my mouth. The coverage is better with a second layer. It’s definitely a buildable foundation. Kudos on that!

I also love how the two layers didn’t leave my skin looking cakey. Another big plus. Instead I was left with a natural yet finish, like I literally woke up with really healthy, glowy skin.

I also bought the Bareminerals Luxe Performance brush and bareSkin PERFECTING VEIL pressed powder as well.

The brush is dense and compact, perfect for a foundation brush. It’s not symmetrical; one side has tapered fibers growing on an angle while the other side has bristles of all equal length. According to the Bareminerals, they claim that “its dense, tapered fibers mimic the shape of your fingertips to provide smooth, flawless coverage, while the compact head size allows for fast and easy blending around hard-to-reach areas like the nose and eyes.” It definitely lives up to that claim and does a wonderful job blending the foundation out. I do find myself using the tapered side more to blend out my foundation.

The pressed powder is great as well, though I think the Ulta makeup artist recommended me a shade too dark. I noticed I have to be more conservative with the amount of finishing powder I use, because if I used too much, the powder would start emphasizing any wrinkles or creases on my face. It’s not my HG finishing powder.

For that reason, I think I’ll be reaching more often for Laura Mercier’s finely milled translucent powder.

And that concludes my review of Bareminerals’ foundation, brush, and pressed powder. Have you guys tried out Bareminerals new line before? If not, what foundations are you loving right now as we go into the chilly, wintery seasons of 2017?

Xoxo,
Alice

Fall Burgundy Makeup Tutorial

Fall is officially upon us! I am so ready for the warm sweaters, pumpkin spice lattes, and fun holidays that are coming up. Know what else? 😉 An extra reason to sport a darker makeup look.

I used mostly the Modern Renaissance palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills. I know the palette has been around for awhile now, but I’ve been so inspired by their red shades.

Here’s my version of that. I wanted to go for a darker red, burgundy makeup look:
