The Red Witch

Four more days until Halloween!! Woohoo!

…honestly though, I’m not much of a Halloween dresser-upper. But as I get older, I’m trying to have more fun 🙂

I’m collaborated with the lovely Sarah Kwak for this video. We were both feeling very WITCHY and decided to recreate two different witch looks. You can also check out her video HERE.

Goodbye Summer, Current Favs

AUTUMN IS OFFICIALLY HERE!!! Are you guys excited for chilly weather? All the pumpkin spice lattes, the hot spicy soups, warm cardigans, cute sweaters…! I’m definitely stoked as this is my favorite season to dress up for. Bring on the cute boots, hoodies, scarves, and more!

Buuuut we gotta say goodbye to summer 2018. It was a good season and I definitely racked up some favorites which I want to share with you in this video:

Smith’s Rosebud Lip Salve Balm – This stuff has been saving my lips throughout the summer! In Los Angeles we get dry heat. Consequently, no matter how much you stay hydrated and run your tongue over your lips, your lips will stay patchy and cracked.

I’ve become very picky about lip balm over the years because many of them don’t moisturize my lips anymore. I avoid EOS lip balms because I have gotten allergic reactions to them. I also avoid Burt’s Bees because they don’t moisturize my lips either. The list goes on and on.

The only lip balm that has consistently kept my lips moisturized and supple has been rose salve. I love both Smith’s and C.O. Bigelow’s versions. Check out both if you’re having trouble with your lips as well!

Benefit Dallas Face Powder –
When I first started getting into makeup about eight years ago, this was my go-to blush! After a few diligent years of consistent use, I decided to move on from Benefit’s Dallas to explore other products out there.

I’m so glad I rediscovered this over the summer. It is simply stunning and for those of you who are also paled skinned, you’ll be able to double this up as both contour and blush.

It’s a neutral plum shade with a little bit of glitter to give you a splendid (but natural) glow. It does a brilliant job of giving you that sun-kissed look while chiseling out your cheekbones, forehead, and jawline.

The brush that’s included inside isn’t the best brush on the market, but I do use it frequently to apply my blush on the go. Portable and convenient, how nice is that?

Kat Von D Alchemist Palette –
I bought this a year ago and I can’t believe I didn’t even crack it open to dip a brush in! It just sat there for many months, lol…

The colors are divine, guys. I love how opaque all the shadows are. In addition, all the shades are unpredictable – depending on which eyeshadow or lipstick shade you have on, you can get a completely different color every time you apply one of these. Think of it as an eyeshadow/lipstick topper. Makes your makeup routine a little more interesting, right? J

Olivia Burton’s 3D Rose Gold Chocolate Bee watch –
Before this, I seriously thought I would never be a ‘watch’ person. You know, those people who like to wear watches on their wrists and actually rely on its functionality (instead of just looking at your phone for the time).

But in my line of work, I have to constantly be on my feet and walk around while being punctual. Unfortunately sometimes I forget to take my phone with me – which means I’m relying on everyone else for the time. It wasn’t making my work efficient, hence why I began to contemplate on purchasing a watch.

I could’ve gotten something much cheaper, but your girl here is very extra and wanted to wear something she’ll like for many years to go. So here you go: Olivia Burton’s 3D Rose Gold Chocolate Bee Watch. It’s definitely not minimalistic with the bee in the middle of clock’s face – but I immediately fell in love with the color scheme and design.

I’ve had it for about three months and it’s become my lovely sidekick that rests nicely on my left wrist. My only complaint would be that the pink strap gets dirty easily. But with a wet wipe, it usually cleans up pretty easily.

Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite (White version) –
One of my biggest New Years’ resolutions has been to read more. And ever since I bought my kindle, that resolution is finally coming into fruition.

I make it a nightly ritual to read at least a couple of minutes before bed. It decompresses me better than any meditation can. Plus I’ve been learning a lot which feels wonderful.

I know ebooks can be expensive, so if you’re looking to read more without having to spend money I definitely recommend you visit: www.overdrive.com. Overdrive will connect you to your local library where you can borrow books online! How cool is that?

What are you favorites? 😉 Let me know in the comments down below.

Until next time!

-Alice

Hey guys! This is the makeup that I’ve been pretty much wearing all day, every day – whether it’s to go to work, grocery shopping, etc. You name it, and this has been my go-to makeup look. And so, subsequently I felt inspired to make a quick tutorial about it.

Em Cosmetic’s “Rose Nude” liquid lipstick has been killing me! Their lipstick just glides on and sits on the lips perfectly. Plus it smells like chocolate (yum).

Hope you enjoy watching!

Orange Lip, Cut Crease Makeup Look

Bright orange lips are so fun to rock during springtime.
I sat down in front of the camera and just started to play around. Eventually I thought I would go for a more daring cut crease look. To make it more interesting though, I added a wing to the cut crease. Ugh, and the orange NYX lipstick? I’ve been in love with orange, I think it’s one of the best shades for those with a yellow undertone. I went for a muted orange lip by adding in concealer to the lips.

Here’s the video. Enjoy!

7 Day Face Mask Challenge Part 1

I think this is one of the longest videos I’ve ever done? And oh my goodness, boy did I underestimate how long it would take to edit! Oy vey, haha.

I’ve always been a fan of face masks; they’re great when giving yourself some self-love TLC, hanging out with friends, or needing a quick rejuvenation in the skin. I thought I would compare seven different masks (worn on seven different days) and give you my two cents on all of them. Heads up, most of them are from Asian brands.

Just a little background on my skin, when I was a teenager I had combination skin. My T-Zone was extremely oily and I had lots of fun squeezing zits and pimples back in the day. My cheeks were normal. Now that I’m a wee bit older, my skin has become much more dry all around. This is where the face masks especially comes in handy.

This is part 1, Days 1-4. I’ll be getting out Part 2 (Days 5-7) sometime this month (fingers crossed).

Cheers,
Alice

Bareminerals BarePRO Foundation Review

For the past couple of years, I’ve been a loyal cushion compact gal. I loved how low maintenance it was to reapply throughout the day and the natural dewy finish was perfect for me.

Lately though, I noticed my needs changed. I wanted more coverage to conceal my sun spots and blemishes. I was getting older and my dark circles became darker. I needed more support to pull off that vibrant, glowing-from-within skin. I also wasn’t a fan of the dewy finish anymore – I craved a matte.

I begrudgingly made a trip to my nearest Ulta Beauty store, bidding farewell to my cushion compacts.

Lo and behold, my new discovery – Bareminerals BarePRO Performance Wear Liquid Foundation. I got the shade in Golden Ivory 08, and I have been LOVING it.

The Bareminerals website claims this foundation will “redefin[e] what long wear means. The skin-loving, high-performance formula blurs pores and imperfections while improving your skin’s condition, all with a soft-focus natural matte finish. With up to 24-hour wear in a range of 30 true-to-you shades, it works and plays as hard as you do. Just one pump delivers lightweight, oil-free, photo-friendly full-coverage.”

I haven’t tested the 24-hour long wear claim because this girl doesn’t have time to allow foundation sit on her face for that long. I did try the foundation (without face primer) for eight hours though, and it definitely lived up to the long wear. My T-zone got a little oily, but with a little pressed powder, it was all good.

I also wanted to test out was the claim that the “formula blurs pores and imperfections…all with a soft-focus natural matte finish.” The watery consistency of the foundation made me hesitant. Was this really going to cover all the blemishes on my face?

After the first application, I did see some blemishes and sun spots peeking through. For daytime, one layer of foundation would suffice to cover my imperfections. For nighttime, however, I did apply another thin layer of foundation to my cheeks, my nose, and the area around my mouth. The coverage is better with a second layer. It’s definitely a buildable foundation. Kudos on that!

I also love how the two layers didn’t leave my skin looking cakey. Another big plus. Instead I was left with a natural yet finish, like I literally woke up with really healthy, glowy skin.

I also bought the Bareminerals Luxe Performance brush and bareSkin PERFECTING VEIL pressed powder as well.

The brush is dense and compact, perfect for a foundation brush. It’s not symmetrical; one side has tapered fibers growing on an angle while the other side has bristles of all equal length. According to the Bareminerals, they claim that “its dense, tapered fibers mimic the shape of your fingertips to provide smooth, flawless coverage, while the compact head size allows for fast and easy blending around hard-to-reach areas like the nose and eyes.” It definitely lives up to that claim and does a wonderful job blending the foundation out. I do find myself using the tapered side more to blend out my foundation.

The pressed powder is great as well, though I think the Ulta makeup artist recommended me a shade too dark. I noticed I have to be more conservative with the amount of finishing powder I use, because if I used too much, the powder would start emphasizing any wrinkles or creases on my face. It’s not my HG finishing powder.

For that reason, I think I’ll be reaching more often for Laura Mercier’s finely milled translucent powder.

And that concludes my review of Bareminerals’ foundation, brush, and pressed powder. Have you guys tried out Bareminerals new line before? If not, what foundations are you loving right now as we go into the chilly, wintery seasons of 2017?

Xoxo,
Alice
